To provide a current detector capable of quickly stopping or limiting the drive of a motor when motor current is abnormal.
The current detector comprises a step for providing current sensors 5a, 5b with the U-phase and the W-phase of the motor M, a step for setting the limit value of the current detected value of each phase to the respective phases, a step for calculating the current value of a V-phase based on the total of the current detected value of the two phases, a step for setting the limit value of a current calculated value smaller than the limit value of the current detected value as the limit value of the calculated current calculated value, and a step for stopping or limiting the drive of the motor when the current detected value or the current calculated value is over the limit value set respectively.
