Instead of the conventional cutter holding device for holding a cutter tool, which is supported in a tool carriage moving at least in a X-Y plane and to which a cutter for engraving a matter to be engraved is mounted, the cutter holding device is equipped with a mounting base mounted to the tool carriage, a holder base shiftably supported along a Z-axis holding a predetermined rectilineal direction to the mounting base and a cutter holder having a cutter tool holding part for holding the cutter tool and being fixed to the holder base so as to put restrictions on the rotation about the Z-axis to the mounting base by the cutter holder in order to make it possible to hold an inclination θ, which is an intersecting angle between the longitudinal axis of the cutter and the Z-axis, at a predetermined angle.
