Abstract:
PURPOSE: To obtain a new compound exhibiting high refractive index and high Abbe's number and useful as an optical resin and an optical product having excellent transparency and heat resistance.
CONSTITUTION: The compound of formula I (R1 is CH2-CH2, CH2-CH2-CH2, CH2-O-CH2, CH2-S-CH2, CH2-O or CH2-S), e.g. 2,5-bis(mercaptomethyl) tetrahydrothiophene. The compound of formula I is obtained by reacting a compound of formula II with sulfur dichloride to afford a compound of formula III, reacting the compound of formula III with thiourea to give a compound of formula IV and successively hydrolyzing the compound of formula IV with an alkali. The compound of formula I is copolymerized with a compound having two or more polymerizable functional groups selected from among an iso(thio) cyanate group, (meth)acryloyl group and vinyl group or with this compound and a compound having two or more hydroxyl group or two or more mercapto groups to provide the objective optical resin and optical product.
