To more easily specify a device being present in front of a user than the prior arts even when a communication means of a low communication velocity or a communication means limited in the number of transmittable bits is used, in a control device and a device to be controlled that are communicable with each other over a network, a device specification system and a device specification method capable of specifying an opposite-side device between the devices.
There are provided: a control device 110 for transmitting, to a device to be controlled 120 communicable using a wireless communication system limited in at least either directivity or a transmittable distance, a device specifying signal specifying the device; and the device to be controlled 120 for transmitting a response to the device specifying signal toward a network 101 through multicasting or broadcasting when the device specifying signal is received from the control device 110. The control device 110 specifies the device to be controlled 120, that has transmitted the response received from the network 101, as a device that has received the device specifying signal transmitted from the control device 110 itself.
