To obtain a new compound having a specific side chain substituent group, useful for production of polymers such as polyimide and polyamide to which new physical properties such as solubility to solvents and photosensitivity are imparted.
This diamine compound is represented by formula I {(n) is 0 or 1; R and R' are each a group of formula II to IV [R1 to R21 are each H or an alkyl (e.g. CH3 or C2H5) and they contain one or more alkyls], e.g. 3,3'-diamino-4,4'-bis(3-methylphenoxy)benzophenone. The compound of formula I is obtained by condensing 1 equivalent dihalogenodinitro compound of formula V (X is a halogen) with ≥2 equivalent phenolic compound of the formula HO- R"(R"is same as R or R'), e.g. m-cresol in the presence of a basic substance such as potassium carbonate in a aprotic polar solvent such a N,N- dimethylfolmamide, preferably at 40-80°C for 2-8 hr and reducing the synthesized dinitro compound with hydrogen in the presence of a catalyst such as Pd/Al2O3 in an amount of 1-3 wt.% in the above solvent at the above temperature for the above time.
