To obtain the subject new compound having a specific side chain substituent group, useful as a monomer aromatic condensed polymers excellent in solubility to solvent and photosensitivity.
This compound is represented by formula I [(n) is 0 or 1; R and R' are each phenyl, biphenyl, etc.], e.g. 3,3'-diamino-4,4'-bis(4- hydroxyphenoxy)benzophenone. The compound of formula I is obtained by condensing 1 equivalent dihalogenodinitro compound of formula II (X is a halogen) (e.g. 3,3'-dinitro-4,4'-dichlorobenzophenone) with ≥2 and preferably ≤2.5 equivalent hydroxymonobenzyl ether compound of formula III (R" is the same as R and/or R') (e.g. hydroquinone monobenzyl ether) in an aprotic polar solvent (e.g. N,N-dimethylformamide) at a room temperature to 150°C, preferably 40-80°C and reducing the resultant dinitro compound with hydrogen.
