PURPOSE: To obtain a new dibenzazepine derivative extremely useful as a therapeutic agent for various allergic diseases and bronchial asthma because of its having excellent antihistamine action and antiallergic action and yet no exhibition of central nervous system depressant action.
CONSTITUTION: A dibenzazepine derivative of formula I (R is H or lower alkyl; X is H or halogen; Y is methylene, O or S; (m) is 2-3; (n) is 1-3; (p) is l-3) and its pharmaceutically acceptable salt such as 2-[4-(11H-benz [b,e]azepin-6-yl)-1- piperazinyl]ethoxyacetic acid methyl ester. The compound of formula I is obtained by reacting a compound of formula II with a compound of formula III (R' is lower alkyl; Z is halogen) and optionally hydrolyzing the resultant substance with an acid or a base.
