This digital image copying machine is provided with an image signal processor 104 that selects a prescribed image signal in the case of reducing/magnifying a read image from an image signal read by an original read means 100 in a main scanning direction, applies interpolation processing between pixels in the case of magnifying the read image in the main scanning direction and applies the processing to one column of image signals in the unit of columns, an original carrying device that moves the original at a speed corresponding to the reduction or the magnification in the main scanning direction, an operation device 400 that enters a revision instruction from a usual mode into an original protection mode, and a controller 302 that executes control including synchronization control of each means according to instruction contents. In the case that the original protection mode is entered, magnification in the subscanning direction is conducted by using both the carrying speed by the original carrying device 505 or the like and the processing by the image signal processor 104.
