To provide an image reader that enhances image quality by suppressing deformation of a frame supporting integrally a light source, a read sensor and optical elements due to the heat of the light source.
A frame 32 made of a mold forming or the like of a close contact image sensor 31 supports a refractive index distribution type lens array 33 and a read sensor attached to a sensor board 35 is placed below the refractive index distribution type lens array 33. A light source 36 with a large heat generation amount such as a fluorescent light is supported by a side wall of the frame 32 at the outside of the frame 32, and a binding member 38 made of a material whose thermal expansion coefficient is smaller than that of the frame 32 and with a rigidity larger than that of the frame 32, e.g. an iron plate is fixed to a part of the frame 32 facing the light source 36 by screws 39. Thus, the heated side of the frame 32 expands and tends to bend due to a heat from the light source 36, but the binding member 38 suppresses the bent to enhance the image quality of a read image.
