Abstract:

PURPOSE: To improve hydrolyzability and heat resistance by transesterfying an organic carbonate and a specified diol mixture.
CONSTITUTION: An organic carbonate and a mixture of diols of Ho-R1-OH and HO-R2-oH [wherein R1 represents 8-14C linear alkylene obtained by loosing 2 hydroxyls from HO-R1-OH and R2 represents 2-14C linear or branched (cyclo) alkylene, a bivalent group obtained from a polyether diglycol by loosing the two hydroxyls at the terminals, two bivalent groups of formula I, a bivalent group obtained by loosing two hydroxyls from a condensation of a lactone of formula II (wherein m is 3 to 5 and n is 4 to 14) with a linear aliphatic glycol] are subjected to transesterification to obtain a diol-terminated polycarbonate having a molecular weight of 1,500 to 150,000 of formula III [wherein R1-CO-O- and -R2-O-CO-O are in random forms, R3 stands for a bivalent group of R1 or R2, and x and y are in an amount of 50 to 95% of all the copolymers in terms of a structural unit corresponding to -(R1OCO-O)x].
