To provide a discharge lamp lighting device capable of coping with vibration without complicating production process.
When a lamp current flowing in a fluorescent lamp FL takes a different value from the desired value due to variations in a choke coil L3 or a transistor Q1 of an inverter circuit 2, a tap 4 is changed to either an intermediate tap L3a or L3b or a terminal L3c. By shorting the portion of the choke coil L3 and thus varying inductance, the lamp current of the fluorescent lamp FL is adjusted and set at the desired value, to set the brightness of the fluorescent lamp FL at the desired value. When the tap 4 is connected to the terminal L3c, the highest inductance of the choke coil L3 is attained, and the lamp current is limited which darkens the fluorescent lamp FL, as the tap 4 is changed to the intermediate tap L3b or L3a, the inductance decreases and the lamp current increases, thus brightening the fluorescent lamp FL.
