Abstract:

To reduce a possibility of recording failure and to attain an efficient recording operation of a defect management by preliminarily inspecting a stain before the recording even when a scratch or stain exists on a recording area on an optical disk medium and by referring to the inspection result when the recording area is assigned.

A period when access to the optical disk medium 1 is not requested, is recognized by an idle time recognition means 104, and when the period recognized by the idle time recognition means 104 is equal to the set time or longer, the normally recordable area on the optical disk medium 1 is recognized by an area integrity inspection processing means 103, and the information recognized by the area integrity inspection processing means 103 is stored in a storage means 109.
