PURPOSE: To set the moving speed of dots at a non-display part to the same speed as the moving speed of a display part and to reduce a feeling of visual fatigue by providing a blank space between character patterns to be displayed.

CONSTITUTION: The above display device is equipped with a display means 100 where plural dot matrix display digits are arranged in one array at constant intervals, a 1st image processing means 200 which adds the blank space corresponding to the extent of the non-display part between dot matrix display digits between the character patterns to be displayed, and a 2nd image processing means 300 which removes a partial pattern passing through the non-display part from the character patterns where the blank space is added by the 1st image processing means and then outputs the character patterns after the removal to the display means. Then when a movement display is made, the blank space is displayed additionally behind a shift display of a display pattern, and image data positioned at the non-display part are not displayed while the non- display part passes. In concrete, the timing where dot patterns protruding from the display digits are displayed on next display digits is delayed by the passage time.
