PURPOSE: To enable various kind of hue display of the titled element by incorporating a display layer composed of a betaine dye, photoanisotropic polymer, a salt and a solvent in a supporting layer having a translucent part in at least one part of said layer.
CONSTITUTION: The display element 10 is prepared by enclosing an aqueous solution 3 having a prescribed concentration into the supporting layer consisting of the translucent layer having a surface 2 of an incident light and the display surface layer 2'. The display layer 10 comprises the aqueous solution 3 contg. the betaine dye, the photoanisotropic polymer, the salt and the solvent capable of dissolving said components and preferably about 0.1W1mm in a thickness. Tthe layer 2 having the surface of the incident light is composed of the trans lucent synthetic resin such as polymethyl methacrylate, polyester, etc. and a glass. The thickness of the above described layer 2, and the display layer 2' are preferably 102W103μm respectively.
