This diversity receiver is provided with a single antenna 110 for reception, a frequency converter 120 for performing frequency conversion of a reception signal, amplifiers 131 and 132 for amplifying the signal subjected to frequency conversion on the basis of an amplifier control signal, an envelope level detector 140 for detecting an envelope level of the signal subjected to frequency conversion, amplified through the amplifier 131, and outputting the amplifier control signal on the basis of the detected envelope level, a switch 150 for usually maintaining a closed state, synthesizer 160 for combining reception signals to be outputted from the amplifiers 131 and 132, and a demodulator 170 for demodulating the combined reception signal. The envelope level detector 140 compares the detected envelope level with a preset reference value, and outputs a switch opening control signal to the switch 150 if the detected envelope level is equal to or greater than the reference value.
