PURPOSE: To save machining time by locating a headstock having a spindle around the central part of the bed and locating a tool post on each side the headstock to machine works from both sides at the same time.

CONSTITUTION: A headstock 1 having a spindle 2 is located approximately at the center of the bed. Cross tables 3 and 4 which are laterally movable are located on the respective sides of the headstock 1. The cross tables 3 and 4 have polygon- shaped tool posts 5 and 6, respectively. Each tool post is movable in the direction perpendicular to the axis of the spindle. A work 15 is chucked in the spindle 2 and is cut from both sides by the cutting tools carried on the tool heads 5 and 6 at the same time thus reducing the machining time for the work.
