To perform the drying in a short time without unevenness, in a drying unit drying a sheet medium including a water-based varnish layer on a surface.
The drying unit 20 includes: a first dryer which includes a first light source unit 30 irradiating the sheet medium P with light in a far-infrared region to heat an oil-based ink layer, and second and third light source units 40, 70 irradiating it with light in a near-infrared region to heat the water-based varnish layer; and a second dryer comprising a hot wind drying unit 60. Accordingly, the sheet medium P including the liquid coating layer is efficiently dried in a short time. By arranging the third light source unit 70 at a most downstream position of a conveying route in a drying region, even when unevenness arises on the surface of the water-based varnish layer due to the blowing of heated gas by the second dryer, the drying is further performed by the radiation heat at the downstream side so that the unevenness is eliminated.
