PURPOSE: To increase braking power and reduce braking distance as well as braking time by a method wherein a braking resistance circuit is provided with the (b) contact of a time returning type timer, which short-circuits one part of control resistance after a given time from the demagnetizing of an exciting coil of an electromagnetic contactor.

CONSTITUTION: A resistance R1 is in a braking circuit until a time (t1) whereat the contact (b) of a timer T is closed. The contact (b) of the timer T is closed from the time (t1) and, therefore, the value of resistance of the braking circuit becomes R1R2/(R1+R2) which is smaller than the resistance R1 whereby a current is increased and a thrust is increased. Accordingly, decelleration is increased and a braking distance may be reduced. The value of resistance is changed once during braking, however, the value of resistance may be changed a plurality of times or continuously.
