To provide an electric double-layer capacitor, wherein the looseness of a sealing part accompanied by use is prevented, the leakage of electrolyte solution accompanied by use is prevented, liquid-leakage resistance is superior, the capacitance is high and the inner resistance is small.
This capacitor has a positive-electrode polarizing electrode 1 containing electrolyte solution, a negative-electrode polarizing electrode 2 containing an electrolyte solution and a separator 3, which is arranged between the positive-electrode polarizing electrode 1 and the negative-electrode polarizing electrode 2. These parts are contained in the space formed of an outer case 4, a cap 5 and a ring-shaped gasket 6. The space is tightly closed by the tightening of the opening end part of the outer case 4 to the inner side. In this case, active carbon cloth or active carbon felt comprising active carbon fiber is used for any one electrode of the positive-electrode polarizing electrode 1 and the negative-electrode polarizing electrode 2. This electrode is expanded into the diameter direction until the outer surface substantially reached the inner surface of the outer case 4. Furthermore, the thickness of a surrounding part 1b of the electrode is set to 70% or less of the thickness of the central part.
