Abstract:

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To facilitate erasure of an image in an electronic still camera where the image is recorded on an attachable/detachable recording medium and to ensure the protection of an image recorded by another device.
SOLUTION: An electronic still camera where a picked-up image is recorded on a memory card is provided with a ROM 22 which stores an identification code intrinsic to the camera and the picked-up image and its identification code are recorded on the memory card. In the case of erasing the image of the memory card, whether or not the recorded identification code coincides with the stored identification code is discriminated and only when they coincide, the image is erased. The selection of erasing an image individually while reproducing and displaying the image or of erasing the plural images altogether without reproducing and displaying the images is made possible.
