PURPOSE: To enhance negative chargeability and to use no heavy metal to render a toner sanitary by incorporating a resin, carbon black, and a specified pigment as essential components.
CONSTITUTION: A toner is composed essentially of a resin, selectable from any kind of resin, so long as it is fit to the purpose; carbon black, selectable from any kind of carbon black so long as it is effectively used as a colorant; and "CI Pigment Red 48" pigment, used, preferably in an amt. of 0.5W5wt% of the toner. This pigment has sufficient negative chargeability control ability and contains no heavy metal, and it is a compd. represented by formula I or II in which M is an alkaline earth metal, such as Sr, Ba, or Ca; and M1 is an alkali metal. The electrostatic charge image developing toner contg. said pigment is extremely high in negative chargeability, and contains no heavy metal, and therefore, it is sanitary.
