To suppress deterioration of the carrying work efficiency of an elevator caused by elongation of wires to suspend and support an article mounting part.

An elevator is provided with an article mounting part CC to mount an article, wires 30a, 30b to suspend and support the article mounting part CC, a driving means UD to elevate/lower the wires 30a, 30b, an elongation detecting means to detect the elongation of the wires 30a, 30b, and a control means to perform the treatment to cope with an abnormality based on the detected information of the elongation detecting means. The control means outputs the alarm signal to cope with an abnormality when the elongation detected by the elongation detecting means exceeds the first set value, and stops the operation of the driving means UD when the elongation detected by the elongation detecting means exceeds the second set value which is set to be a larger value than the first set value.
