PURPOSE: To surely set an empty roll without causing troubles by stopping a finger-driving apparatus when an overload state is detected in a finger to push out the empty roll to a setting position.
CONSTITUTION: In the exchanging of a full roll to an empty roll, when a woven cloth reaches to a specified length, a cloth-roll carrier loaded with an empty roll 4B arrives in front of a loom, a transferring member composed of a transfer arm 11 and a finger 11a is actuated to transfer the full roll to the carrier and then the empty roll 4B is placed on the transfer arm 11. After the woven cloth is cut between the full roll and the empty roll 4B is started to wind the woven cloth, the transfer arm 11 is moved in the opposite direction on the full-roll takeout path to carry the empty roll 4B toward a shaft-receiving indent 3a. Then, the finger 11a is shifted to the closed position by the action of a driving mechanism 21 and the empty roll 4B is engaged into the shaft-receiving indent 3a by the pushing motion of the finger 11a while the transferring member is retreated to a lower sidetrack. During this motion, in the case where an overload detection device 21a detects overload, the movement of the driving mechanism 21 is stopped to prevent troubles.
