Abstract:
PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a quick-drying, film-forming emulsion polymer compsn. and a coating material having excellent mechanical strength prepared therefrom.
SOLUTION: This film-forming emulsion polymer compsn. comprises: not less that 60wt.% first copolymer emulsion polymer having a glass transition temp. of 10 to 100°C; and not more than 40wt.% second copolymer emulsion polymer having a lower glass transition temp. of 0 to 50°C and below the first copolymer emulsion polymer. The content of a nonionic hydrophilic unit selected from the group consisting of a hydroxyalkyl ester of an α,β-unsatd. acid, vinyl alcohol, alkylphoshite-alkylacrylate and methacrylate, alkylphosphono- alkylacrylate and methacrylate, and an alkylamide of an α,β-unsatd. acid in the second copolymer emulsion polymer is less than 10wt.%.
