Abstract:
To provide an encoder containing a configuration for diagnosing disconnection of a power generation element, without causing erroneous detection in detecting multiple rotation.SOLUTION: In the encoder 100, a multi-rotation detector for measuring a rotational frequency of a motor shaft 55s includes: a permanent magnet 15 attached to the motor shaft 55s; a power generation element 14 disposed opposite the permanent magnet 15; and a power generation element diagnosis part 30 for diagnosing the power generation element 14. The power generation element 14 is constituted by winding a coil 13 around a magnetic material 12 in which magnetic flux directions are changed according to changes in an external magnetic field, and power generation pulse signals GPa and GPb are output from the coil 13 according to rotation of the permanent magnet 15. Further, the power generation element diagnosis part 30 applies diagnostic current Ia to the coil 13 so that a direction of the magnetic flux generated inside the magnetic material 12 is unchanged, and determines presence/absence of disconnection of the coil 13 on the basis of presence/absence of flowing of the applied diagnostic current Ia, in order to diagnose the power generation element 14.SELECTED DRAWING: Figure 1
