Title:
END FACE MACHINING METHOD FOR OPTICAL CONNECTOR FERRULE
Document Type and Number:
Japanese Patent JP2002098855
Kind Code:
A
Abstract:

To provide an end face machining method for an optical connector ferrule, a method that causes no chips or cracks in coated optical fibers in the process of machining the end face of an optical connector ferrule.

The end face machining method consists of a 'process of inserting a coated optical fiber' in which a coated optical fiber f is projected and inserted from the end face 2A of an optical fiber inserting hole 2, a 'process of applying adhesive on the end face of a ferrule' in which a fillet-shaped adhesion part HF is built-up-formed on the end face 2A of the inserting hole including its projecting coated optical fiber f1, a 'process of cutting off the projected part of the coated optical fiber' in which the projecting coated optical fiber f1 is cut off from the apex A of the fillet-shaped adhesion part HF at the end face 2A of the inserting hole, and a 'process of polishing the end face of the ferrule' in which the end face 2A of the inserting hole including the fillet-shaped adhesion part HF is depressed onto the grinding face 3A of a grinding device 3 for polishing.
