This multiwavelength light source uses a light intensity modulator 21 having two arms where electrodes 21a and 21b for phase control are arranged to cancel one of two primary modulation sidebands in a modulation output by applying the electrodes 21a and 21b with high frequencies given a 90° phase difference by a high frequency generating device 26 and a phase shifter 27 and also setting the DC phase of light to 90° by a DC voltage source 28 and further remove the fundamental wave and the sideband of even order by a Mach-Zehnder type filter 22, thereby circulating light whose light frequency is sequentially shifted in an optical ring circuit C.
