Abstract:

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To purge a canister as much as possible at stratified combustion, without prohibiting the purge uniformly.
SOLUTION: From the evaporative fuel that is purged away from a canister at stratified combustion, an air-fuel ratio AFREVP of the mixture that is formed about the border of a combustion chamber is estimated. If the air-fuel ratio estimate AFREVP is found, in S701, smaller than a first preset air-fuel ratio SLEVP1, or on the richer level, or larger than a second preset air-fuel ratio SLEVP2, which is larger than the value SLEVP1, or on the leaner level, a purge-valve-opening correction factor KEVP is set to '1' in S703 for an uncorrected purge. If the air-fuel ratio estimate AFREVP is found between the first and second preset air-fuel ratios SLEVP1 and SLEVP2 in S701, the purge-valve- opening correction factor KEVP is set to a smaller value in S704 for a purge with the purge valve opening being limited. If the catalyst temperature is found higher than a preset temperature in S702, a purge is performed irrespective of the air-fuel ratio.
