To provide an exhaust emission control system, capable of efficiently utilizing the cleaning function of a catalyst by heating a catalyst support to quickly up to an activation temperature or more in heating a catalyst, and preventing degradation in a cleaning rate and heat deterioration by cooling the catalyst support and maintaining at a predetermined temperature or less in cooling the catalyst, in an exhaust emission control system.
A heat exchanging part 22 for catalyst is provided to heat or cool the catalyst of an exhaust emission control device 10. In heating the catalyst, heat of exhaust gas G absorbed with an exhaust heat absorbing part 21 is supplied to the exhaust emission control device 10, with a first heat pump 20 formed between the exhaust heat absorbing part 21 of an exhaust passage 3 and the heat exchanging part 22 for catalyst. In cooling the catalyst, the heat of the exhaust emission control device 10 is absorbed with the heat exchanging part 22 for catalyst and is supplied to a heat exhaust part 32, with a second heat pump 30 formed between the heat exchanging part 22 for catalyst and the heat exhaust part 32 releasing the heat to cooling water or to the atmosphere.
