To solve a problem in a separation-type expander in which oil with high viscosity at a low temperature flows into a generator to cause energy losses.
The expander is constructed by including: a sealed container 18d forming an oil reservoir 25 in a bottom portion of the expander; a generator 16 provided above the oil reservoir 25 inside the sealed container 18d; an expanding mechanism 15 provided above the generator 16 inside the sealed container 18d and for retrieving power from operating fluid; a shaft 26 with an oil-supply passage 18c formed inside thereof and coupling the generator 16 and the expanding mechanism 15 such that the power retrieved by the expanding mechanism 15 is transmitted to the generator 16; an oil pump 18m provided in a lower end of the shaft 26 and for supplying oil in the oil reservoir 25 to the expanding mechanism 15 through the oil-supply passage 18c; and an oil returning pipe 4a provided outside the sealed container 18d and for returning oil flowed out from the expanding mechanism 15 to an lower space 18s below the generator 16.
