The external additive for a toner according to the present invention has a hydrophobic substance on the surface of metatitanic acid microparticles having a number average primary particle diameter of 10-300 nm, the hydrophobic substance being produced using a water repellent agent containing an amino-based silane coupling agent. In addition, the toner of the present invention contains colored resin particles and the external additive for toner of the present invention, the colored resin particles containing at least a colorant and a resin.
