PURPOSE: To provide a composite material capable of properly controlling the interfacial binding force between a matrix and fiber and producing a fiber- reinforced composite material having excellent fracture toughness value and strength and high reliability arc the composite material using the fiber.
CONSTITUTION: This fiber for a composite material is obtained by forming a coating layer composed of at least one selected from a metal, a mica mineral, boron nitride and silicon dioxide on the surface of ceramic fiber. Furthermore, the coating layer composed of the metal is preferably formed by a chemical vapor deposition (CVD method) or a physical vapor deposition method (PVD method). This fiber-reinforced composite material is prepared by dispersing the fiber for the composite material in a matrix composed of a sintered ceramic compact.
