PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a fire-extinguishing apparatus that keeps stable fire-extinguishing performance irrespective of a combustion state of a petroleum combustor.
SOLUTION: A core 4 is vertically movably mounted in a gap in a wick containing cylinder 3 constructed with a wick inner cylinder 1 and a wick outer cylinder 2, and is vertically moved with the aid of a wick vertical movement apparatus 6 contained in an air chamber 5 adjacent to the outside of the wick housing cylinder 3. An air communication hole 7 communicated with fresh air is provided in the air chamber 5, and a slit shaped vent hole 8 communicated with the wick housing cylinder 3 and the air chamber 5 and an air hole 9 communicated with fresh air provided in the upper wick housing cylinder 3 wall of the air chamber 5 are alternately disposed, whereby temperature in the wick housing cylinder 3 is kept low by forcing fresh air to flow in from the air hole 9 during combustion. Further, in ordinary fire extinguishment a wick lowering position is made higher than the air hole 9 to extinguish fire while combusting unburnt gas with the aid of air sucked from the communication hole 8 and the air hole 9. In contrast, upon emergent fire extinguishment the wick lowering position is more lowered than the communication hole 8 to cause air to flow in from the communication hole 8 and the hole 9 and petroleum gas to quickly diffuse into the air chamber 5 from the slit shaped vent hole 8 for quick fire extinguishment.
