To provide a new and improved flame-retardant felt capable of preventing developing through holes in the felt layer due to heat shrinkage even in the case of using relatively inexpensive heat-shrinkable flame-retardant fibers as the flame-retardant fibers to be blended.
This flame-retardant felt comprises a fibrous laminate which is obtained by blending non-flame-retardant fibers, flame-retardant fibers and a phenolic resin binder together, laminating the blend in a fleece fashion followed by applying heat to the laminate to cure the binder, wherein non-heat- shrinkable fibers as the non-flame-retardant fibers are blended at 50-60 wt.% based on the total fibers and heat-shrinkable flame-retardant fibers as the flame- retardant fibers at 50-40 wt.%, and the fiber length of the heat-shrinkable flame- retardant fibers is 5-25 mm.
