To solve two problems, that is, a problem such that only a relatively thin graphite film is obtained and a problem such that high temperature of 2,800°C is required for converting a polymer film to graphite of high quality, in a manufacturing method for the graphite film for directly converting the polymer film to graphite of high quality to enhance the heat resistance, adhesion and insulating properties of the graphite film with an insulating material.
A film comprising a polyimide film of which the average coefficient of linear expansion within a temperature range of from 100°C to 200°C is not more than 2.5 x 10-5 cm/cm/°C and/or the double refraction is not less than 0.13 and/or a copolymer or mixture of at least two kinds of polyimides selected from polyimides each having a repeating unit of a special molecular structure, is heat-treated at a temperature of 2,400°C or higher to form film-like graphite and an insulating layer is laminated to at least one surface of the film-like graphite.
