To provide a new gravure-platemaking roll which is equipped with a surface reinforcing coating layer with no toxicity, completely eliminating the risk of the occurrence of an environmental pollution, and which is excellent in printing resistance and printing performance, and a manufacturing method for the gravure-platemaking roll.

This gravure-platemaking roll 10a comprises: a hollow roll 10; a copper plated layer 12 which is provided on the surface of the hollow roll 10, and where many gravure cells 14 are formed on a surface; and a diamond-like carbon coating 20 for coating the surface of the copper plated layer 12. In this case, the depth of the gravure cell 14a coated with the coating 20 is set to be in the range of ≥5 μm and <10 μm.
