PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a gripping method of a segment for using even the segment of a rectangular shield.
SOLUTION: In the case that the segment 2 for constructing lining of a tunnel 3 is gripped, the segment 2 is eccentrically gripped with a gripping position 20 thereof being shifted in the axial direction of the tunnel and in a direction orthogonal thereto.
