Abstract:
PURPOSE: To conduct an electromagnetic wave into a collector with less power loss by converting the direction of electron beams into the large collector through a gap within a wave guide. CONSTITUTION: The region 30 of a wave guide 20' between an output tapered part 18' and a gap 24' acts as a mode converter, electromagnetic energy is converted from an interaction cavity mode into a higher order mode in which current in a wave guide wall is dropped and loss caused by diffraction at both ends of the gap 24' is small. Electromagnetic energy transmitted by the mixture of two modes is equally spread, and radiated by crossing the gap 24'. When the electromagnetic energy crosses the gap 24', a second mode converter 31 converts the higher order mode produced with the first converter 30 into the original mode, that is, is used to restore to the first lower order cavity and wave guide mode. The wave guide 20' may be tapered to a wave guide 36 having a suitable size.
