A head chip 30 is provided on a head base 40, and has first and second nonmagnetic substrate blocks 11, 31, a magnetoresistance head 17, and a thin film head 26. The head 17 has a first magnetic core 12, a first insulating layer 13, a magnetoresistance core 14, a pair of conductive plates 15 and a second insulating layer 16. The head 26 has a second magnetic core 21, a third insulating layer 22, a conductive coil 23, a fourth insulating layer 24, a third magnetic core 25 and a fifth insulating layer 27. A pair of printed circuit boards 32 each having flexibility are fixed to the base 40, brought at one into contact with the head 17 and at the other into contact with the head 26.
