To simplify the steps for giving an azimuth to a head assembly by providing an oblique angle corresponding to the azimuth to a head base not to the head itself.

The head drum assembly for a video cassette recorder comprises a head assembly 210, a head 211 having a magnetic gap 212 and a head base 213. The base 213 is divided into two parts of a part 213a fixed to the lower surface 201 of a rotary drum 201 and a part 213b having front surface 213b-1 and rear surface 213b-2. The surface 213b-1 of the base 213 is formed so as to have a predetermined inclination angle θ corresponding to azimuth to the surface 213b-2. Thus, as shown, the azimuth θ can be easily given to the gap 212 merely by providing the head 211 on the surface l3b1 of the base 213b to make it possible to simplify the steps.
