Abstract:

To provide a steel component having a heat-treated hardened layer of the thickness of <300 μm on an outer surface without any thermal deformation even with a thin steel material or a steel material of the small diameter.

A steel material is brought close to an induction heating means with the waves of ultrahigh frequency of 1-4 MHz supplied thereto at the output of 2-15 kW. The surface of the steel material is heated while moving at least one of the steel material and the induction heating means, and the surface of the steel material immediately after the heating is quenched for heat treatment. A hardened layer of the thickness of ≥50 μm and <300 μm is formed on the surface of the steel.
