PURPOSE: To provide a novel compd. which is excellent as a selective herbicide by treatments before germination and after germination.
CONSTITUTION: This compd. is a triazolopyridine type one expressed by formula I (X, Y and Z are each H, halogen, alkyl, haloalkyl, alkoxy; at least one of X, Y, X are exclusive of H; Ar is lower alkyl, lower alkoxy, lower alkylthio, phenyl, phenoxy, halogen, halogen substd. Ar, heterocyclide Het). The compd. is obtd. by bringing a compd. of a arylidene-2-(pyrido-2'-il)hydrazine type having formula II into reaction with an oxidizing agent, such as lead tetraacetate, according to a cyclic oxidation reaction. The herbicidal compsn. is obtd. by combining 0.05 to 95wt.% compd. described above with one or more kinds of agriculturally permissible solid or liquid carriers and/or agriculturally permissible surface activators.
