Title:
HIGH-DENSITY OPTICAL CABLE
Document Type and Number:
Japanese Patent JP3393805
Kind Code:
B2
Abstract:

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To reduce the possibility of additional attenuation caused by the buckling of a U-shaped carrier by making a maximum compressive force operating on the U-shaped carrier less than a minimum force which can be buckled toward a groove.
SOLUTION: The internal core of a cable 10 has a rod 12 equipped with a coaxial center strength member 11 coated with plastic. The outer peripheral surface 22 of the rod 12 has a rib 13 and seven grooves holding a stack of ribbons of optical fibers. The cable 10 has 10 ribbons 15 inserted into the respective grooves 14. Each ribbon 15 contains 16 optical fibers. Then 13 U-shaped carriers 17 are stranded around the rod 12. Each U-shaped carrier 17 contains a stack of 10 ribbons 23 of 16 fibers. The maximum compressive force operating on the U-shaped carriers is made less than the minimum force which can be buckled toward the grooves.
