PURPOSE: To obtain a hole transport material excellent in the ability to transport holes.
CONSTITUTION: A hole transport material represented by the formula (wherein R1 to R16 are each hydrogen, halogen, alkyl, alkoxy, thioalkoxy, cyano, amino, mono- or di-substituted amino, hydroxy, mercapto, aryloxy, arylthio, a carbocyclic aromatic group, a heterocyclic aromatic ring, or a heterocyclic group; and X is oxygen, sulfur, alkylated nitrogen, carbonyl, thiocarbonyl, a bivalent aromatic residue or a bivalent alicyclic residue).
