Abstract:
PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image display device which has brightness improved in scenes represented by many pixels including color components other than white in an input video signal when making luminance high by a color filter for white.
SOLUTION: A color separation and extraction part 1 separates and extracts white components from a video signal, and a color component distribution detection part 2 detects a distribution state of white components on a picture, and a light source control part 3 outputs a light quantity control signal for controlling the light quantity of a light source in accordance with the detected distribution state of white components, to a light source driving part 4 to drive a light source 5. Thus such control is performed that the quantity of light of the light source is dynamically varied in accordance with the distribution state of white components in one picture.
