The image forming apparatus includes a display panel which displays an icon simulating the finish image of a printed matter when a functional item indicating a function of the image forming apparatus is selected, a means for registering the icon specific information, and a means for receiving the icon specific information display. The means for registering the icon specific information receives an input of the icon specific information for specifying an icon from the user, and registers the icon specific information thus received in a means for storing the icon specific information in association with the icon. When an instruction for displaying the registered icon along with the icon specific information is received from the user by the means for receiving the icon specific information display, the icon is displayed selectably along with the icon specific information, and selection of the displayed icon is received.
