Abstract:

To prevent the occurrence of insufficient refilling in regard to an increase in speed, tubulation and ink viscosity by maintaining a stabilized negative pressure in simple configuration.

This image forming apparatus includes an ink cartridge 76 which stores ink, a first passage 41 supplying ink to a recording head 10, a second passage 42 communicating with an ink cartridge 76, and a passage resistance variable unit 83 variable in passage resistance according to the flow rate of liquid flowing through the first passage 41. The image forming apparatus further includes a third passage 43 having a pump 78 and serving for communication with the second passage 42 and the passage resistance variable unit 83. When ejecting liquid drops from a nozzle, ink is fed from the ink cartridge 76 to the recording head 10 by the pump 78 in the communicating state of the recording head 10 and the ink cartridge 76 through the passage resistance variable unit 83, and a head tank 30 having a damper mechanism is disposed between the passage resistance variable unit 83 and the head 10.
