To suppress a variation in throughput by absorbing an individual variation in a time from the start of a feeding operation of a recording material until the recording material starts to move.
An image forming apparatus comprises: an operation time measuring means 203 capable of measuring the operation time from the start of the moving operation till the feed roller 402 reaches the feeding position when a moving operation to move a feed roller 402 from a position spaced from the recording material to a feeding position where the recording material can be fed is performed; and a feed and conveyance control means 202 which derives timing to start the moving operation to the subsequent recording material by using the measurement result obtained by the operation time measuring means 203 so that the interval between the preceding recording material and the subsequent recording material is constant when images are successively formed on a plurality of sheets of recording materials. Thus, when images are consecutively formed on the plurality of sheets of recording materials, the moving operation to the subsequent recording material is started at the timing derived by the feed and conveyance control means 202 so that an interval between the preceding recording material is constant.
