The image forming apparatus includes: a discharge device for discharging an ink on a recording medium for each printing pixel by adjusting the amount of ink discharged per recording pixel to a target value; and a curing device for curing the ink by irradiating the ink landed on the recording medium with active ray. The target value is within a range of the discharge amount in which: the concentration-securing discharge amount is set as a lower limit; and the curing degree-securing discharge amount is set as an upper limit. The concentration-securing discharge amount is the discharge amount where the concentration of color reproduced on the recording medium when the ink is landed and cured on the recording medium serves as a target concentration. The curing degree-securing discharge amount is the discharge amount where the ink curing degree, obtained when the ink is landed and cured on the recording medium, serves as a target curing degree.
