Abstract:
To provide an image forming apparatus that can accurately detect a basis weight of a recording material with a simple configuration regardless of a water content state of the recording material, and can form an image under an appropriate image forming condition according to the basis weight of the recording material.SOLUTION: An image forming apparatus 100 comprises: an image carrier 7; a transfer member 8; application means 62; first detection means 40 that detects information correlated to a weight per unit area of a recording material P conveyed to a transfer unit T2; second detection means 63 that detects a value of a voltage generated when the application means 62 applies the voltage to the transfer member 8 such that a predetermined current flows in the transfer member 8; and control means 200 that corrects a result of detection performed by the first detection means 40 on the basis of a result of detection performed by the second detection means 63 when the recording material P is at the transfer unit T2, and controls an image forming condition according to the result of detection performed by the first detection means 40 after the correction.SELECTED DRAWING: Figure 8
